1. Place Fast, Finish Once

Concrete repair mortar application rewards speed and punishes hesitation — run through this checklist:

• Check the substrate one last time: damp, saturated, no standing water. Sponge out puddles in potholes — ponded water destroys the water-to-cement ratio and weakens the patch from below.
• Pour and screed immediately. Hold the trowel at roughly 10° at its leading edge and level in as few passes as possible. For a concrete driveway repair, one clean pass beats five fussy ones.
• Do not re-work the surface. This material starts reacting within 15–20 minutes of mixing; repeated troweling makes it stick to the blade and leaves drag marks. If you must re-level, wait 2–3 minutes and smooth once.
• Roll out the air. Immediately after spreading, pass a spiked or foam roller over the surface to release entrained bubbles — trapped air is a hidden cause of pinholes and later delamination.
• Do not burnish. Unlike fresh concrete, this mortar must not be steel-troweled to a hard, shiny finish; its short initial set makes that impossible anyway.

2. Layer Deep Repairs — Without Interruption

Layering is the part of concrete repair mortar application that most crews get wrong. For anything deeper than a thin overlay:

• Scratch coat first. Spread a thin contact layer and confirm every high and low point is wetted with mortar before building up thickness.
• Build in continuous lifts. Place each layer while the previous one is still fresh — a delay between lifts creates plane weaknesses that separate later.
• Never fill a deep pothole in one pass. A one-shot thick fill builds internal shrinkage stress and cracks in a spider-web pattern within days. As a pothole repair mortar, this product is designed for 3–5 mm layers, with clean 5 mm crushed stone blended in for depths above 10 mm.
• Saw-cut control joints after large overlays. Continuous repairs wider than a few square meters need stress-relief joints, or thermal movement will crack the surface at random.

3. Curing and Traffic: the Repair Mortar Curing Time That Matters

Curing is where impatient crews lose months of service life. The repair mortar curing time for strength is short, but the surface still needs moisture management:

• Initial set arrives in roughly 39 minutes, final set in about 54 minutes. The surface is walkable after about 6 hours of natural curing, and summer temperatures allow vehicle traffic in roughly 2 hours — a concrete driveway repair can open the same afternoon, but waiting until the next day measurably extends service life.
• Water-cure actively. Spray lightly at 30 minutes and 90 minutes after finishing outdoors, and at 2 hours and 4 hours in hot summer weather.
• Keep the surface from drying out for 3–5 days where possible — light spraying whenever it looks pale or dry. Proper curing is the cheapest strength you will ever buy.
• Deep potholes need the full repair mortar curing time above — resist the urge to reopen them early.
• Watch the weather. Do not apply in rain, below 5°C, or onto a frozen surface.
